Manchester Art Gallery is open every Thursday until 9pm.

The gallery adopts a more grown-up mood in the evening. Meet friends for a cheeky beer or glass of wine and forget the hassles of your day when you browse our exhibitions and displays.

Ghislaine Howard from, Works of Mercy

Thurs 10 April

PassionArt evening
5 – 8.30pm

Join us as we explore the PassionArt Trail in music and image.

Artist, Ghislaine Howard, will be showing works from her series of small paintings Acts of Mercy as a one off installation in our Dutch gallery. Ghislaine will be on hand to talk to visitors about this extraordinary collection of work.

Music group, Ephiphany, will be performing responses to art works in the gallery and their own musical portraits which respond to people in the gallery. www.epiphanymusic.org.uk

6.30-7.30pm Encounters and Transformations A lecture by Michael Howard

Focusing on works in Manchester Art Gallery’s collection, particularly those included in the Passionart trail, this talk will use these lines as an imperative to explore the nature and effect of our encounter with works of art.

The PassionArt Trail invites you to explore your own personal journey in relation to the Easter passion story reflecting on the universal themes of transformation, grief and loss, love and kindness and our longing for hope using traditional and contemporary art sited in gallery, museum and sacred spaces. Testing the Glass: Google Glass Augmented Reality application testing
5-8pm

During the evening Dr. Timothy Jung, Senior Lecturer in Digital Tourism, and Dr. Mandy Claudia Leue from Manchester Metropolitan University will be pilot testing an augmented reality application developed for Google Glass. Using George Stubbs' painting Cheetah and Stag with Two Indians, they'll be investigating how and if Google Glass might be used to deliver deeper interpretive information to visitors.

They'll be looking for volunteers to test the application during the evening, so if you'd like to check out Google's latest wearable in action, drop by Gallery 1 between 5-8pm. (Each testing session will take about 30 minutes).

Lucian Freud, Girl with Beret

Renowned critic, William Feaver shares his first hand knowledge of the School of London painters.

Renowned critic, William Feaver was a close friend of the artists featured in our display, Radical Figures. No other writer had such a close relationship with Lucian Freud in particular and Feaver has written several books on the artist and organised many exhibitions. We are pleased that he has accepted our invitation to share his first hand knowledge of the School of London painters here at Manchester Art Gallery.
